17 Hispanic and Mexican-Inspired Machine Embroidery Designs: Talavera, Conchas, Sugar Skulls and More
Hispanic and Mexican-inspired machine embroidery designs for Hispanic Heritage Month, Día de Muertos, baptisms and everyday pride: flags, sugar skulls, papel picado, Talavera, conchas, cafecito and Madrina and Padrino lettering, with the size, stitch count and hoop fit for each.
Some of the designs people ask us for most are the ones that feel like home: the flag on a work cap, a calavera for the ofrenda, a concha that asks ¿tienes chisme?, or a Madrina sweatshirt for a baptism day. This guide covers every design in our Hispanic & Cultural collection, from small left-chest flags you can batch for a team or family event to a full-back Mexican coat of arms.
Studio Pro Apparel is a family embroidery studio in Buckeye, Arizona. We work with a lot of small businesses and fellow embroidery shops, and these files are made to help you fill orders for heritage events, markets and family parties without digitizing from scratch. Every design below is a digital download only. Nothing physical ships. Each one is $10.99 and comes as one ZIP with PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, HUS and VIP files plus a PNG preview, and most also include XXX. Sizes are listed as width × height as shown in each preview. See the full Hispanic & Cultural collection.

Mexican and Filipino flag designs
1. Mexican Eagle Coat of Arms (D0520)

The eagle perched on a cactus with a serpent in its beak, framed by oak and laurel branches, as at the center of the Mexican flag. It's a full-color statement piece for the back of a hoodie, jacket or sweatshirt for Mexican Independence Day on September 16, family reunions or everyday pride. At 230 × 208 mm it's too big for a standard 8 × 12 in (200 × 300 mm) hoop either way you turn it, so you'll need a larger sewing field, at least about 235 × 210 mm. It's also very dense, so use a sturdy stabilizer. Design size 230.4 × 208.2 mm (9.07 × 8.20 in), 94,723 stitches. Get the Mexican Eagle Coat of Arms design.
2. Mexican Flag (D0522)

A small full-color Mexican flag, green, white and red with the eagle in the center. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop and stitches quickly, so you can batch it on cap sides, left chests, sleeves and backpacks for a team, a quinceañera crew or a family event. Design size 56.7 × 38.5 mm (2.23 × 1.52 in), 6,991 stitches. Get the Mexican Flag design.
3. Black and Gray Mexican Flag (D0521)

The same flag in tonal black and gray. The muted colors suit work caps, uniform sleeves and jackets where a full-color flag would stand out too much, which makes it a good pick for crews and small-business uniforms. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop. Design size 56.7 × 38.5 mm (2.23 × 1.52 in), 7,119 stitches. Get the Black and Gray Mexican Flag design.
4. Filipino Flag (D0377)

The Philippine flag with its blue and red bands, white triangle, gold sun and three stars. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop for a left chest, cap front or jacket sleeve, and it's a timely pick for Filipino American History Month in October, family reunions and graduation gifts. Design size 77.4 × 52.4 mm (3.05 × 2.06 in), 12,887 stitches. Get the Filipino Flag design.
Día de Muertos sugar skulls and papel picado
5. Sugar Skull Front (D0286)

A front-facing calavera with yellow eye rims and red and pink swirls, for Día de Muertos and Halloween. It's the smallest skull here and fits a 4 × 4 in hoop, so it works on a left chest, cap, beanie cuff or baby piece. Design size 52.2 × 67.6 mm (2.06 × 2.66 in), 12,989 stitches. Get the Sugar Skull Front design.
6. Sugar Skull Side Profile (D0283)

A sugar skull in profile with a yellow flower at the temple, red swirls and a small cross on the forehead. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop for a left chest, cap front, sleeve or bag patch, and its dense fill gives it a detailed, patch-like finish. Design size 71.0 × 78.9 mm (2.80 × 3.11 in), 18,178 stitches. Get the Sugar Skull Side Profile design.
7. Sugar Skull Side Profile Variant (D0285)

An alternate listing of the side profile calavera with the same size and stitch count. Its ZIP has PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, HUS and VIP but no XXX, so if you stitch on a Singer, choose the original above. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop. Design size 71.0 × 78.9 mm (2.80 × 3.11 in), 18,178 stitches. Get the Sugar Skull Side Profile Variant design.
8. Skull Heart Papel Picado (D0284)

A red papel picado banner with cut-out flowers and a skull inside a heart at the center, in one design. It fits a 4 × 4 in hoop for a left chest, cap front or tote, and it's a natural choice for ofrenda gifts, pillow covers and family shirts. Design size 93.6 × 71.8 mm (3.69 × 2.83 in), 21,788 stitches. Get the Skull Heart Papel Picado design.
9. Descansen en Paz Lettering (D0554)

"Descansen en Paz," rest in peace in Spanish, in long blue script for Día de Muertos and memorial pieces. Stitch it along a banner, the edge of an altar cloth or table runner, across a sweatshirt front or down a sleeve. At 255 mm long it just fits a 6 × 10 in hoop with about 5 mm to spare, so an 8 × 12 in hoop is the safer choice. Design size 255.2 × 49.7 mm (10.05 × 1.96 in), 6,647 stitches. Get the Descansen en Paz Lettering design.
Talavera designs
Our Talavera designs are inspired by the hand-painted pottery and tiles of Puebla. They're this month's free design of the month: join our email list and use code FREEDESIGN at checkout to get one of them free.
10. Tia Talavera Flowers (D0662)

A Talavera-inspired floral accent and the lightest stitch-out in this list at just 860 stitches. It runs long and low for a crewneck, a Día de Muertos tee or a tote. It fits a 5 × 7 in hoop along the long side with only a few millimeters to spare, so a 6 × 10 in hoop is more comfortable. Look at the stitch preview on the product page to see the layout before you stitch. Design size 176.3 × 73.4 mm (6.94 × 2.89 in), 860 stitches. Get the Tia Talavera Flowers design.
11. Talavera Cactus (D0352)

A tall cactus covered in blue-and-white Talavera tile patterns, potted in a matching Talavera planter. A natural fit for Southwest and Mexican heritage pieces on a left chest, cap side or pocket. At just over 100 mm tall it needs a 5 × 7 in hoop. Design size 44.7 × 100.8 mm (1.76 × 3.97 in), 7,764 stitches. Get the Talavera Cactus design.
Pan dulce and cafecito
12. Tienes Chisme Concha (D0680)

A pink concha between the words Tienes and Chisme, asking if you've got gossip. It fits the chest of a tee or sweatshirt, a tote or a kitchen towel, and at 114 mm tall it needs a 5 × 7 in hoop. Pair it with the concha earrings below for a pan dulce theme. Design size 75.3 × 114.0 mm (2.96 × 4.49 in), 19,900 stitches. Get the Tienes Chisme Concha design.
13. Pink Concha Earring Multiples (D0336)

Six pink concha earring pieces stitched together in one hoop. It fits a 5 × 5 in hoop, so you can make several pairs of embroidered earrings in one run for a market table, a pop-up booth or gifts. Design size 118.6 × 121.0 mm (4.67 × 4.76 in), 41,511 stitches. Get the Pink Concha Earring Multiples design.
14. Un Cafecito Coffee Floral (D0689)

A steaming cup of coffee inside a wreath of greenery with Un Cafecito in script. Un cafecito means a little coffee, and it makes a cute sweatshirt front, tote or apron, an easy gift for the coffee lover in the family, or a fun piece for a local café. It's just over 100 mm on both sides, so use a 5 × 7 in hoop. Design size 100.4 × 108.0 mm (3.95 × 4.25 in), 15,707 stitches. Get the Un Cafecito Coffee Floral design.
Madrina and Padrino designs
15. Madrina Est 2026 Bow (D0506)

Madrina in blue script with EST. 2026 and a small bow underneath, for a 2026 baptism, First Communion or godmother proposal. Madrina means godmother. It fits a 6 × 10 in hoop. Design size 211.8 × 152.1 mm (8.34 × 5.99 in), 9,006 stitches. Get the Madrina Est 2026 Bow design.
16. Padrino Est 2026 Bow (D0585)

The godfather match: Padrino in blue script with EST. 2026 and a bow. Stitch it with the Madrina design for matching baptism day shirts. It squeezes into a 6 × 10 in hoop with almost no clearance, so an 8 × 12 in hoop is safer. Design size 205.2 × 159.8 mm (8.08 × 6.29 in), 8,247 stitches. Get the Padrino Est 2026 Bow design.
17. Madrina Est 2024 (D0507)

A long black script madrina with a small EST 2024 underneath, for a godmother whose godchild was baptized in 2024. Stitch it across a chest or down a sleeve. At 238 mm long it needs a 6 × 10 in hoop. Design size 237.6 × 53.2 mm (9.35 × 2.09 in), 6,056 stitches. Get the Madrina Est 2024 design.

Before you stitch
- You need an embroidery machine and compatible software. These are machine stitch files, not SVG cut files or hand embroidery patterns.
- Check the design size and hoop clearance on each product page against your machine before you buy.
- Run a test stitch on similar fabric with a suitable stabilizer. Dense designs like the Mexican Eagle Coat of Arms and Pink Concha Earring Multiples stitch best with a sturdy stabilizer.
- Día de Muertos is November 1 and 2. If you're stitching a batch for your shop or family, the small flags and sugar skulls are the fastest to run.
