Machine Embroidery Design FAQ

Everything you need to know before you buy a machine embroidery design file from Studio Pro Apparel, a small embroidery studio in Arizona.

What is a machine embroidery design?

It's a digital stitch file that tells a computerized embroidery machine where to place every stitch. Our designs are machine stitch files, not SVG cut files and not hand embroidery patterns, so you'll need an embroidery machine and compatible software to use them.

Is anything shipped when I buy a design?

No. Every embroidery design is a digital download only. No garment, patch, or other physical product is shipped, and there's no shipping charge on design files.

Which file formats are included?

Each design comes as one ZIP package with PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, HUS, and VIP embroidery files plus a PNG design preview. Most designs also include XXX. The exact list is on every product page, so check it against your machine before you buy.

Which embroidery machines do the files work with?

The formats cover the common machine families: PES (Brother, Baby Lock), DST (Tajima and most commercial machines), JEF (Janome), EXP (Melco and Bernina), VP3 and HUS (Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff), and XXX (Singer). If your machine uses a different format, embroidery software can usually convert one of the included files.

How big is each design, and will it fit my hoop?

Every product page lists the design size in millimeters and inches and the stitch count, measured from the PES file. Compare that size with your hoop's sewing field, and leave a little clearance, before you buy.

How do I open the files?

Unzip the package first, then load the format your machine reads into your embroidery software or straight onto the machine.

Any tips before I stitch?

Run a test stitch on similar fabric with a suitable stabilizer before you start your finished piece. The preview image shows the stitch design, and finished results vary with fabric, stabilizer, thread, and machine settings.

How much does a design cost?

Most single designs are $10.99. The price is always shown on the product page.

Can you stitch a design onto a shirt for me, or make shirts for my business?
